AliExpress Europe Warehouse Shipping: Why Location Changes Your Price

The single biggest thing that changes your AliExpress delivery time and final price isn’t the seller. It’s the warehouse the item ships from. A “Choice” badge from a Poland or Spain-based warehouse can land in 7–10 days with VAT already folded into the price. The same item shipped direct from a Chinese warehouse can take 15–20 days and sometimes attracts a separate customs charge at the door.

Choice shipping vs. standard shipping

AliExpress “Choice” listings ship from regional warehouses — typically in Poland, Spain or the Netherlands for EU-bound orders — and are the closer, faster option. Non-Choice listings often ship direct from a Chinese warehouse via standard international post.

Why the price on the listing isn’t the whole story

Since the EU dropped its low-value import exemption, every parcel technically owes VAT regardless of price. Choice listings handle this at checkout — the number you see includes it. Standard listings from outside the EU sometimes don’t, which means a courier can knock on your door asking for the VAT plus a handling fee before releasing the parcel.

This is the single most common complaint we see about AliExpress in Europe, and it’s almost always a Choice-vs-standard mix-up, not a scam. If a listing shows the Choice badge and a “local warehouse” delivery estimate, the VAT is already in the price you paid.

Country-by-country notes

UK orders through Choice sellers typically clear via Yodel, DPD or Royal Mail in about a week. Non-Choice China-direct parcels run through Royal Mail’s international service and take noticeably longer, especially outside major cities.

Germany benefits from strong regional warehouse coverage — DHL handles most Choice deliveries here in 6–9 days, among the fastest in our tracking.

Spain has its own AliExpress-linked warehouse presence, so Correos-delivered Choice parcels are often faster here than in neighbouring markets.

France sees slightly longer average times via Colissimo, generally 8–11 days for Choice orders, mostly due to last-mile routing outside Paris and Lyon.

How to spot the faster option before you buy

• Look for the “Choice” badge on the AliExpress UK listing, not just in your cart — it should also show an estimated delivery window under 10 days.
• Check the shipping origin listed on the product page. “Local warehouse” or a specific EU country name is the tell.
• Read the delivery estimate range, not just the cheapest shipping tier — sellers sometimes offer both a slow-free and a paid-faster option on the same Choice listing.
• Don’t assume price is the only signal. A slightly higher Choice price that includes VAT can still beat a “cheaper” non-Choice listing once a customs charge lands.

If a courier asks for money at the door

This still happens occasionally on older, non-Choice listings from sellers who haven’t switched to the newer checkout flow. If it happens to you: ask the courier for an itemised receipt before paying, photograph it, and raise a dispute through AliExpress’s buyer protection if the charge looks wrong or wasn’t disclosed anywhere at checkout. Buyer protection covers this — most disputes we’ve seen resolved land in the buyer’s favour within a week when the VAT wasn’t shown upfront.

It’s rare enough now that it shouldn’t stop you from ordering, but it’s the one scenario worth knowing how to handle before it happens rather than after.
