Temu vs Allegro and MediaMarkt: Poland's Price Gap Tested
Temu runs cheaper than Allegro and MediaMarkt PL on small unbranded goods — home items, phone accessories, cheap tools — by a wide enough margin that free shipping thresholds barely matter. On electronics and anything branded, the gap narrows fast, and Allegro’s same-day delivery network sometimes wins on total value even at a higher sticker price. We checked a basket of comparable items across all three to see where Poland’s price gap actually sits.

On unbranded small goods, Temu ran 35–55% cheaper than matching Allegro listings in our check. On branded electronics, MediaMarkt PL and Allegro's marketplace sellers closed most of the gap once you weigh in next-day InPost locker pickup versus a longer Temu delivery window.
Why Poland is a tougher comparison than most markets
Most countries we track have one dominant general retailer sitting opposite Temu. Poland has two very different competitors doing that job at once. Allegro isn’t a single retailer — it’s Poland’s own marketplace, closer in structure to Temu itself than to a chain store, with millions of third-party sellers and prices that range from bargain to inflated depending who’s listing. MediaMarkt PL is the more conventional comparison: a bricks-and-mortar electronics chain with online pricing to match its overhead.
That split matters for the price check. Comparing Temu to Allegro is marketplace-versus-marketplace — you’re really comparing Temu’s factory-direct sellers against Allegro’s mixed bag of Polish and EU-based sellers. Comparing Temu to MediaMarkt PL is the more familiar factory-direct-versus-retail-chain story we’ve run in other markets.
What we compared
We priced 20 items across three categories — home goods, phone accessories, small electronics — matching as closely as possible for spec and looking at landed price with Poland’s 23% VAT included on both sides.
| Category | Local benchmark | Avg. price gap vs Temu | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home goods (organizers, kitchen tools) | Allegro | Temu ~45% cheaper | Widest gap of the three categories |
| Phone accessories (cases, cables, chargers) | Allegro | Temu ~50% cheaper | Allegro sellers often re-list the same factory items at markup |
| Small electronics (earbuds, gadgets) | MediaMarkt PL | Temu ~25% cheaper | Gap narrows once brand-name stock enters the comparison |
Allegro’s own no-name sellers frequently carry the exact same items Temu sells, just re-priced with a margin on top — which is the biggest single reason the phone-accessory gap runs as wide as it does.
Where MediaMarkt PL still wins
Price isn’t the only variable, and on branded electronics MediaMarkt PL’s advantage isn’t really about price at all. A named-brand charger or pair of earbuds bought there comes with a Polish-language warranty, an in-store return counter, and stock you can walk out with today. That convenience premium is real, and for anyone burned by a slow cross-border return before, it’s often worth paying for even at a 20–25% markup over the Temu equivalent.
Where Allegro still wins
Speed. Allegro’s Polish seller base means huge numbers of listings ship from domestic warehouses with next-day delivery to an InPost locker — the parcel-locker network Poland leans on more heavily than almost any other market we track. Temu’s cross-border shipping model, even with local warehousing improving, still can’t consistently match that turnaround for every order. If you need something by tomorrow, Allegro’s domestic sellers are the more reliable bet regardless of the small price difference.
Free shipping and VAT — same threshold logic, different starting point
Poland’s Temu free-shipping threshold sits at 100 zł. Allegro’s Smart! delivery program has its own separate threshold structure per seller, which makes basket-building more unpredictable — some sellers offer free delivery from a much lower spend, others don’t offer it at all outside the Smart! program. Both platforms charge Poland’s standard 23% VAT on top, so tax isn’t the variable that decides the winner here — basket size and seller choice are.
Checkout experience: BLIK vs card-first
The price gap isn’t the only thing that differs at checkout. Poland’s most popular payment method, BLIK, is deeply embedded in Allegro’s flow — it’s the default option for a huge share of Polish online shoppers, letting you approve a payment from your banking app in seconds without ever entering a card number. Temu supports BLIK too, alongside Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and PayU, so the payment side isn’t a meaningful differentiator anymore, but it’s worth knowing before you assume a foreign marketplace won’t take your usual method. A few years ago that gap was real; today it isn’t one of the reasons to pick either platform.
Return friction is the hidden cost
Price comparisons rarely account for what happens when an item doesn’t fit or arrives damaged, and that’s where the three platforms diverge most. MediaMarkt PL has physical stores across Poland’s major cities, so a return is a five-minute counter visit. Allegro’s return process depends entirely on the individual seller — some Polish sellers offer InPost locker returns as easy as the original delivery, others require you to ship back at your own cost with less responsive support. Temu’s return window and process are standardized across the catalogue, which is more predictable than dealing with dozens of different Allegro sellers, but it still means shipping an item back cross-border rather than dropping it at a counter. If you buy items you’re likely to send back — clothing sizing being the obvious case — that friction is worth weighing against the sticker price.
Country notes
Warsaw and the major cities get the fastest InPost and DPD turnaround on both platforms, which flattens some of the delivery-speed argument for Allegro if you’re ordering from a metro area. Smaller towns see the gap widen back out, since fewer Allegro sellers offer next-day service outside the big population centers.
Empik and Zalando PL round out Poland’s competitive set for the categories Temu doesn’t directly touch — books/media and fashion respectively — but neither came up as a meaningful price competitor in this basket, since Temu’s core categories (home, accessories, small electronics) don’t overlap much with either.
FAQ
Is Temu actually cheaper than Allegro in Poland? On unbranded small goods, yes — often by 40–50%. On items where Allegro sellers are just re-listing the same factory stock, the gap is real. On branded goods sold by verified Polish retailers, Allegro is more competitive.
Does MediaMarkt PL ever beat Temu on price? Rarely on sticker price alone, but its in-store returns and same-day availability can make it the better overall value for branded electronics, even at a 20%+ premium.
Why does Allegro sometimes sell the same product as Temu? Allegro’s marketplace includes many third-party sellers who source from the same factory-direct suppliers Temu works with, then resell at a markup. Spotting these listings (often near-identical photos to Temu’s own) is one of the easiest ways to confirm you’re overpaying.
Is InPost delivery faster than Temu’s shipping? For Allegro orders from domestic sellers, generally yes — next-day to a locker is common. Temu deliveries typically take longer since more of the catalogue ships cross-border, though this varies by item and current warehouse stock.
Poland’s price gap isn’t as clean-cut as markets with a single retail competitor — it depends heavily on whether you’re comparing against Allegro’s marketplace sellers or MediaMarkt’s retail stock, and how much a next-day locker delivery is worth to you.
